About the exhibition Human
Since its founding 15 years ago, the Prix Pictet has explored the role of humans on the planet and global sustainability. This year’s theme, Human, brings together 12 photographers to interpret the various facets of this topics with works spanning from documentary and portraiture to landscape photography.
“Sharing twelve unique insights, through the work of each of the photographers, is a clear reminder of the inherent power of documentary photography to tell stories, to raise awareness, and to lay the groundwork for change”, says Lisa Giomar Hydén, Director of Exhibitions at Fotografiska Stockholm.
About Ragnar Axelsson
For over 40 years, Ragnar Axelsson, Rax (b. 1958), has been photographing the people, animals and landscape of the most remote regions of the Arctic, including Iceland, Siberia and Greenland. In stark black-and-white images, he captures the elemental, human experience of nature at the edge of the liveable world, making visible the extraordinary relationships between the people of the Arctic and their extreme environment — relationships now being altered in profound and complex ways by unprecedented climate changes.
